No Seabrook Island Wedding is complete without a great love story and Karie and Jarrett’s doesn’t disappoint. This beautiful couple proves that sometimes it takes a really scary moment for you to realize what is truly important to you.
When the couple first met, they both expressed that neither wanted to get married for their own reasons. Two years later, Jarrett was rushed to the emergency room with terrible headaches, nausea and impaired vision. After an MRI, they discovered that Jarrett had a cyst and a large tumor in his brain and needed surgery. The surgery revealed even worse news: Jarrett had Stage 3 brain cancer. Karie said, “It was the saddest day of my life. I had to envision my life without my best friend, the love of my life, the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with!” Karie added that both of their families rallied together and stayed positive for Jarrett. After three months of chemo and ten months of radiation, news began to improve and the tumor continued to shrink! During those ten months, the couple would talk about their future and their love for one another. They realized that they couldn’t imagine life without each other and the previously inconceivable idea of marriage was suddenly on the table.
The story of how Jarrett proposed is the most beautiful in Karie’s words! “On December 5, 2014 I took Jarrett out to dinner at his favorite restaurant here in Denver for his birthday. We had just started sipping a glass of wine when Jarrett started this sentence, “You know, I never actually told you what I wanted for my birthday.” I started to mentally freak out, thinking he was going to be so unhappy with the gift I bought him. The next thing I know Jarrett is pulling out a gorgeous ring from his pocket and said, “What I really want for my birthday is for you to be my wife.” We were over the moon! So happy and so in love! An unforgettable night with the most amazing man in the world!”
Seabrook Island Weddings has a special place in the couple’s hearts, so choosing to have the wedding here was an easy decision. Jarrett’s family owns a condo here and this was where they spent their first vacation together.
While the couple originally planned to wed on the Seabrook Island beach terrace, Tropical Storm Anna had other plans. The two said their I Do’s on the beautiful grand staircase – a feature of the Seabrook Island Club that Jarrett’s father had expressed his love for when the couple first announced that they would be holding their wedding here! “It was so beautiful we wouldn’t have had it any other way,” Karie added.
