We are so excited to share this stunning Seabrook Island Wedding with you! Colleen and Dan‘s wedding was the perfect mix of unique DIY’s and very talented vendors. We love that this Maryland couple fell head over heels for Seabrook Island and proved that it is the perfect destination venue thanks to our talented coordinators and staff (they only visited Seabrook twice before their big day!)
After asking for Colleen’s father’s permission, Dan proposed to Colleen at a Dave Matthews Band concert, their favorite band! “Dan is terrible at keeping secrets and surprises but he planned this one out perfectly. (And it’s hard to keep a secret from Colleen.) That Valentine’s Day, he bought Colleen tickets to the Dave Matthews Band concert the following July. (Dan and Colleen love Dave Matthews Band.) Colleen thought this would be a nice little date, just the two of them, enjoying the concert. Little did she know that meanwhile, Dan was conjuring up plans to have all of their friends meet them down in Virginia Beach to join them for the concert and take part in his plan. Colleen didn’t have a clue about any of this. Even after a couple slight hiccups in Dan’s plan, when he was sure Colleen had caught on, everything went right over her head and things proceeded as he planned.”
“During the tailgate party before the concert, all of their friends surprised Colleen but she still didn’t think twice about it! Being that it was the day after her birthday, she just figured they were all there to celebrate with her! Dan had the plan to propose to Colleen during the song “Crash into Me”, which is one of their favorite songs. Well, Dave Matthews did an acoustic version first before the actual concert, which they missed because they were having so much fun at the tailgate. But Dan ended up proposing during another great song “Crush”.
Dan and Colleen both live in Maryland, but Dan’s family owned property on Seabrook Island and the couple had been visiting together for more than six years. On one trip, several years before they got engaged, Colleen mentioned that the Ocean Terrace at Seabrook Island Weddings would be an incredible place to say their I Do’s. When the couple began wedding planning, they loved the idea of getting married here, were daunted by the distance between Seabrook and their home in Maryland. However, it was no contest compared to the other venues they toured. “The venue was not only beautiful (which we already knew) but affordable, and so special to us.” The couple’s family was supportive, and almost all of their guests made the trip down to celebrate their special day with them. Colleen and Dan only made two trips down before the wedding, citing Kathleen’s helpfulness and coordination.
Colleen was inspired by Seabrook Island Weddings for a fun and beachy wedding. She wanted her bridesmaids to be comfortable and mis-matched, so she allowed them to pick their own short pastel gowns with the MOH and COH (cousin of honor) in longer dresses. There were so many adorable DIY’s and personal touches in their wedding! From custom corn hole boards and other games to adorable favors and a DIY photobooth, we love how much thought and personality the couple put into their big day!
