Surrounded by family and friends of two very different cultures, a modern marriage commenced with a beautiful wedding on Seabrook Island, SC.
Despite living in Los Angeles, Charleston native Brittney Middleton and Nigerian born Ike Ogike chose Seabrook Island, South Carolina to host their wedding, which took place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on June 17th. Despite different cultural and spiritual upbringings Brittney and Ike were happily married before 275 guests at Seabrook Island Club, the beautiful wedding venue in Seabrook Island, SC.
Traditional Cuisine + Attire
Traditional Nigerian foods from Ike’s family included stewed goat meat, jollof rice and pounded yam wraps while American food included herb-seared Angus flat-iron steak and chicken piccata. The passing of the kola tree nuts, a traditional African custom to welcome the Middleton family, was led by the groom’s father, Aloysius Ogike.
To conclude the Seabrook Island wedding festivities the couple changed into Nigerian dress for a traditional dance. Mr. Ogike wore a traditional Nigerian black caftan (a nod to his Igbo heritage) with wine-colored detailing to match Ms. Middleton’s long sleeved wine-colored gown.
